Living a life of meaning is more important than anything else.
No matter what you feel you need to get done to get your life in order, it will MEAN nothing to you if you sacrifice the internal sense of meaning, or fulfillment, in the doing of it.
When you entrust your life to a life of meaning you stop reacting to what others tell you that you need to do to be safe. You stop reacting to your own fearful thoughts and crazed desires. You realize that you need to live in a state of inner peace in the now in order to feel the sense of meaning that makes life feel worth living.
When life does not feel worth living, we are depressed, and we are depressed, at least in many instances, because we have been giving outer circumstances control of our internal experience.
Whatever consequences you fear, it is the living in fear that robs your life of the meaning that you need to feel to live your life fully, to feel fully engaged, and even to do your best work.
Anxiety kills the meaning of life. Whatever you feel anxious about, when you push yourself to get circumstances into a state in which you no longer feel anxious, you feel enslaved to outer conditions.
You need your life to feel meaningful in order to live and love fully, in order for your physical body to be in its best possible condition, in order to do your best in all areas of life and therefore to produce the best results.
Without a sense of meaning, your life feels, well, meaningless, and carrying on seems to make less sense.
It’s impossible to describe the sense of meaning in life because it has nothing to do with reasons. It’s a feeling. You don’t need any reason at all to experience a fully meaningful life. In fact, there is not a single reason that will give your life meaning.
You might say that you derive your sense of meaning from your children, but if you are pushing yourself to meet your kids’ needs to the point that you feel emotionally drained or even dead inside, you are not getting meaning from parenting.
You experience meaning as you let go of all the reasons. Whatever you strive for without the experience of meaning in the present moment feels like too much of a burden, and it is.
If you feel anything less than a totally fulfilling sense of meaning in your life right now, to the point that you feel content, inspired and happy, then it’s time to stop telling yourself to do this or that, and to start allowing yourself to simply be aware of how you feel in the moment.
Awareness of how you feel will guide you into the thoughts, actions, or rest that you need to feel better. When you place the feeling of meaning above all else you find that you feel empowered to take care of everything that needs to be taken care of and you do your best at it. As the same time you are not striving in a state of desperation, but simply applying your creative energy from a state of contentment, fulfillment and inspiration.
Entrust your life to meaning. That is basically how to live a meaningful life. When you lead a meaningful life everything falls into place.
